There’s No Place Like Home

sigh. Where to begin??

We finally arrived home last night after a 4 day trip to Hilton Head. The trip was good. I was pretty anxious in the days preceeding the trip about how everything would go. Even from the beginning, it’s a 5 hour road trip…. with a 3 year old & a 9 month old!… sounds like goodtimes doesn’t it? Believe it or not, both kids were excellent on the ride & we actually made it in an hour less than what we planned for.

Brian was there on business… we were of course there on pleasure. Brian had meetings in the morning from 8-12 & the rest of the day was ours to play. Can’t beat that! Not to mention that the resort we stayed at was friggin’ amazing! I mean, AMAZING! We felt like royalty. We ate $100 meals anywhere we wanted for four days & charged it to the company. word.

I was worried that the kids would have some cranky moments since we were abandoning all schedules & bedtimes, but they were fantastic! They had such a blast & didn’t seem to mind the hectic agenda at all. Friday night was the only night that we had to have dinner with the company & after a full day on the beach & shopping, I was sure they were going to be the typical overly tired 3 yr old & 9 month old, but I was pleasantly surprised. They enjoyed the delicious food & played quietly with Kelly (Brian’s co-worker) & Kathlyn’s little girls. We had dinner on the beach & we couldn’t have asked for better weather! It was a real treat!

The ride back was hell since keely somehow broke her DVD player & seemed to have developed a bladder the size of a pea overnight, but we made it. A trip that took us 5 hours to get there, took us almost 8 to get back… don’t ask. The kids were so exhausted that they slept until 10am this morning… & the baby slept all day today. He was such a happy little trooper though. We had so many compliments on what an easy-going, happy baby he is. & Keely was so well-behaved & polite  🙂  We couldn’t have asked for a better set of kids.

Brian’s co-workers are such a fun group of people. We all enjoy this trip every year & it’s a lot of fun to hang out with everyone & just have a good time. It’s like being on vacation with a bunch of people that you know, but only have to see when you want to. Every year the company rents one of the large suites in the hotel & they call it the “hospitality suite”. They encourage everyone to spend time in there since the real reason for this trip is to get to know each other’s families & fellowship with one another. Farm Bureau is a really great company to work for. They care about the employees & want them to enjoy their jobs & each other. We didn’t get to spend as much time in the hospitality suite as we have in previous years since we had the kids with us this time, but it’s always a lot of fun in there too. There is every kind of free beverage you can think of, so needless to say, most people take advantage. It can get pretty interesting in there late night. haha.

So that was our trip to the beautiful island of Hilton Head in a nutshell. I’m so bummed that we only took 3 measley pictures while we were there, but we stayed so busy… & to be honest, the last thing I want to worry about keeping up with out on the beach is a $300 camera. I won’t even buy sunglasses that cost more than 15 bucks for that very reason. We’re on the beach… it’s supposed to be relaxing & just kind of “whatever”. So I’m sorry to say that I don’t really have many pictures to post.

This is a pretty cute one of Cale getting bathed in sunscreen before heading out to the beach….

You think you’ve got enough on his head Brian. My Gawd.

This pic is so sweet. I just want to squeeze his little arms. It looks like the whole bottle of sunscreen was applied all over his body!! Look how shiny he is 🙂
